Breaking Loose

How much does our past success reflect the level of our future accomplishments? Or vice versa. Do we think because we have failed in the past, we will fail in the future? Do we think because we have been successful in the past, we will be successful in the future? Our past is, or can be, very valuable. As we look in the rear view mirror we can evaluate ourselves, if we look honestly. In doing that we can make the necessary adjustments. However, sometimes objects in that mirror may appear larger than they actually are. We can be tricked into thinking that past success ensures the same in the future. We can also refuse new adventures because of the many botched assignments of the past.

Far too often we lack the confidence to really pursue God's calling because we have done so poorly with what we've been given so far. Do not misunderstand, we must be accountable for what we've done. We must deal with the consequences of our actions, and be accountable to God. But true accountability should birth change. Change in perspective. Change in behavior. Change in possibility. Satan tries to convince us it's too late. Too late to start over. Too late to make a difference. Too late to do something amazing. So, we don't. We believe it. We get tethered to the past. Instead of the past motivating us to transform and adjust, we allow it to harden around us like concrete, keeping us from moving forward.

God has a huge task for me, and for you. That scares me. I'm sure it scares you too. I feel inadequate. I say to myself, "God, what makes you think I can do that. Look how mediocre I've been with what I've been given so far." God is challenging me to change. To grow. Sometimes we allow our growth to stall out, and the only way we can get growing again it to be stretched.

What's holding us back? US!
